back to regular training.did some speed work on friday and managed a 22:37 5km. Not my best, but i felt not bad about it considering the surgery and time off off that kinda stuff. I am glad i managed to keep running during the recovery process. Even though it was not “training”. Never really taxing my heart and lungs as the incision was healing and sore. But getting back to the REAL work is awsome. To feel the legs burning as i grind it out up a long hill, the lungs screaming bloody murder as they desperatly search for air…….speaking of which, i found out a neat trick. I always concentrated and tried to breath in and out as I ran. What I learned is this. You do’nt have to concentrate on the breathing in. Only the out. Cause like it or not your body will breath in all by itself. So buy concentrating and controling my ‘out’ breaths i found it easier during hard workouts this weekend.
Ran the around the bay plus yesterday. not bad. nice course. however i did smell pot about a half dozen times while around the Hamilton East area……lol..ahhhh Hamilton.
With no Terry Fox run i feel some pressure to make plans for this summer. Do I a) sign up for other endurance races like the canadian death race, or the endur run. or b)get a bunch of people together to race canada this summer. you know, cannonball run style. just meet in Nova Scotia on June 1st at 8am and GO.

Dear Steven,
‘I just wish people would realize that anything’s possible if you try. Dreams are made if people try’ -
Terry Fox
We greatly appreciated your understanding and patience over the last few weeks as we considered the
logistical and financial implications of carrying out Marathon of Hope 2009. Further to this, and after consulting
with the CBC and Paperny Films, it has been decided the event will not take place in 2009.
In making this decision the parties also considered that in 2010 The Terry Fox Foundation will be celebrating
the 30th anniversary of the Marathon of Hope.
In only a few short weeks, we were flooded with submissions – average Canadians, men and women, young
and old, blue collar workers and professionals, from every corner of Canada who have been touched by Terry
Fox. Every runner had their own reason and unique motivation for wanting to be a part of this run – several of
you had your own brush with cancer, others with deep personal reasons of their own. We were moved by both
the written and video applications. In fact, there is almost a sense of relief that we were able to temporarily
postpone the difficult decision of having to choose between the applicants.
You can expect to hear from us, if and when there are further developments on this initiative and corresponding
programming. Thank you again for believing in the vision and principles of Terry Fox.
Sincerely,
Darrell Fox
National Director
Thank you to all who supported me in my decision to give this a try. You took time to watch my video and leave a comment in support of me. I felt a lot of love coming my way and i am blessed to have such a strong support group.
This is not the end of my journey, only a fork in the road.

Reading yesterday’s blog i realized i was really how horrible it sounded. It’s funny how one bad experience can ruin a day and make you feel like throwing in the towel. Why bother?…people suck. Is that wrong to feel that way? there are some truths in this world. People will be mean, people will be nice. You’ll have good days and bad days. some days you’ll be on top of the world and others you’ll feel like the worlds gonna end. So, bad things happen, you scream and cry and get mad, and when you wake up the next morning, you try again. The best thing you can do is get up every day and try, be positive. Try your best to have the best day of your life. One this is for certain, If you don’t try, you never will have that day?

p.s. and don’t forget to smile
Running has been going great last couple of days. Most of the discomfort from the surgery is gone. I managed a good 9mile per hour pace for 5 minutes. That felt great. It’s been a month since i went that fast. i also started strength training again. Ouch….. Today i can barely move my arms. Sitting up and squatting are nearly impossible. But it does feel good to have that pain. the good pain. finally back to full training. With only 8 weeks to the terry fox marathon of hope 2009 reality show i feel like rocky prepping for a big fight against the russian giant. That’s not to say i’ve been chosen yet. I am still waiting and have heard NOTHING. Fingers still crossed.
So, about the title. What kind of person throws a rock through someones car window? Seriously? What is up with that? I can understand breaking a window to steal the radio to sell for cash. I can understand stealing the car. I can see the tangeable in it. But what does one get out of simply breaking the window. How sick is that. All that happens is I am out $300 deductable to get the window fixed. It’s things like this that make me lose my faith in mankind and wonder why do we try to save humans? when they do things like that? I know it’s not everybody and this anger will leave. But for now, i have no faith in people.

I went to a Chi Running clinic on Saturday. It cost $125 and was 4 hours long. There were 2 instructors.
going into this i had not read the book, or really known much about it, except for what which Casey has told me. That it has to do with gravity, and running from within. It kinda goes like this I think…..Imagine your body from your ankles to your ears being a 2*4. Straight and none bending. when you wish to run lean forward from the ankles…If you keel leaning and keep your body straight one of two things will happen. Your face will hit the ground or yo’ll start running. Making running really no more than an involuntary motion to stop your face from hitting the ground. Now Gravity will keep you going. To sped up…lean more…to slow down lean less. If you keep your leg speed the same the only change besides the lean will be your kick back…hense extending your gate.
I always felt that in order to run faster you drive forward with your arms and legs. Doing this you will notice that you are now dragging your ass….literally, as it is behind your arms and legs and your pulling your torso. By leaning forward and kicking back, driving your arms back to counter balance your torso that is falling you are using less energy as it is gravity propelling you.
It sounds amazing in theory…especially to an endurance runner. We shall see as I put it in practice over the next few months. So far I tried it on Sunday during my 19km run. It was difficult as it was hard to keep the appropriate posture and concentration. They did say that it takes time as you do some chi mixed with your running style. I guess will see how it goes.
The teaching was good. some one and one and group work. The breathing and leg turnover tips were helpful. Banana’s, clementines and water were provided at the mid way break. All in all, i’d say expensive, but a great learning experience.
