Today’s training

Filed under: Training — beatcancer @ 1:18 am

What a day. I celebrated my 14th anniversary of being Cancer free yesterday. YEAH! So i continued my celebration of life today with a 70km run and followed it with a 8km run.I wanted to run further but i think Caleigh would kil me. She had me doing 3-4km recovery run. As i am just recovering from the injury. However, I did run fairly slow Caleigh……:)

They say your body is the most important tool you will ever possess. Which made me think. we oil our tools, keep them clean, care for them, even provide them with preventative maintenance. What have you done for your body lately?

Injuries!!!!

Filed under: Training — beatcancer @ 11:21 am

Yes, Yes, Yes, Injuries suck. I haven’t blogged in  a while as i have been injured. I didn’t know what to say.  It’s like i was ashamed.  It’s hard to accept the fact that you can’t run. I ran through the pain for the last month. It’s the posterier tibal tendon.  I Think. I’ll find out on monday when i see a new physio therapist. So in the mean time it’s lots of biking and strength training. I gotta say…..the biking has definatley sparked the “triathlon” bug…..to be continued…..

To be injured is to admit that you are not “indestructable”, not capable of doind what you say, less than you think….It is a hard thing to admit….well for me anyways. What i have to realize is that they happen.  When you look at most of the elite’s, they are injured almost more than they’re not. It is was happens when you train that hard. We push ourselves so much that something is gonna give. In my case i believe that i had many issues that have needed to be worked through since i started running 5 years ago. 30 years of bad posture, poor form,  body pollution, car accident, bad muscle effeciency…yada yada. As i have added mileage i get to a new performance level and then something gives.  I need to step back, fix that, then move forward. It feels like 3 steps forward 2 steps back……which of course is better then 3 steps forward 4 steps back….. it is now about keeping a positive mind and working forward keeping the end in mind.

running across canada?

Filed under: Training — beatcancer @ 3:47 am

I have been reading in running forums that there are lots of people interested in running across Canada. Each and every one of them for there own reasons.  They will all need to get together with friends and family to form support teams to aide in there trek’s.  I know this is not an easy thing as i have done lots to organize the same and come up short. So, I have an idea. What if we put together a race. 4 person teams, 1 RV per team.  This would help with the teams, because every memeber would be running.  I would not take as long, or be as indivdually expensive. We would also be able to make more of a stink to get our purposes out there as to make a bigger difference. I think there are many ups to the idea. It would also start an awsome group. Maybe it cold become a yearly event and we cold get sponsors and prizes. What do you think?

Monday, recovery day

Filed under: Training — beatcancer @ 3:41 pm

Feel pretty good today? My extensor digitorum tendon is still sore.  Maybe even worse. Decided to go for a ride. Made it just to the outskirts of ancaster and i got a flat. Of course i did not have my spare kit on my bike. So i began walking back to town to call Casey for a ride. Since I had no quarters or cell phone I decided to ask the first person i saw working in their yard if I could borrow their phone to call for a ride. I figure everyone has a cordless phone now a days since they come with most home phone packages. About a km into my walk I see a guy outside planting some trees. I stopped to ask him to borrow the phone as i had a flat and wanted to call my fiance. Picture this……I am wearing bike shorts, helmet, tanktop, pushing a competition triathlon bike. He looks me once over frowns and says NO. NO. Do I look like I’m about to rob or attack the guy. I’m not asking to come in your house.  Just for you to go inside and bring me the phone. NO. What world is it we live in that people are so afraid of people that they won’t let a stranded person borrow the phone. Our ancestors who would have driven the person home them selves would surely be disappointed in what we have become.

The Bread and Honey 15km was yesterday. After working late and and getting to bed around 11pm, really hot sleeping so i tossed and turned tons. A friend of ours Janet met us at our house at 6am to head out to streetsville.Once there and set up with our gear it started to heat up. It was well on it’s way to 30 by race time. At about the 5km mark it really started to get hot. Apparently around 32 with a humidX of 39. There were lots of hills. So many infact that it was like the last half of the around the bay. Excluding the heartbreak hill itself. I make it up a hill, and just as i recover and start resuming my race pace, there was another hill…..AAARRRRGGG. I ended up with a depressing 1hr15min. I really had wanted to break 1hr10min. Do i blame the heat,  the hilly course, or just the fact i was not trained to go as fast as I thought?
