Well, It was a game day decision, but with a head full of doubts, and a couple of advil, i ran the race.
Finished in 3:53:50. Did the last km super quick and strong. Next up 3:30. Well really it would be back to back marathons. But who says I can’t get faster as my endurance grows?
Ed Whitlock was the key note speaker at the pasta dinner. What an inspiration. The 76 year old runs 3 hours a day. HOlds records like a 19 minute 5km and sub 3 hour marathon at age 75. I was watching the half marathon awards and when they called his name he leaped up the stairs to the stage 2 at a time. He eats well and runs. Sounds so simple doesn’t it. Like I say…put down the twinkie……..and run for your life.

Well, It comes down to this. I’m packed, and were leaving for London. Am i going to run the marathon…….?
My Shins/calves are stil swollen a bit and painful. Do I run the whole marathon just because im stuborn? Or the half to be easy? or nothing at all?The main goal is to run across canada. Not london marathon…but?

You hear that a lot. Listen to your body. Once you inderstand the language it will tell you a lot. I bought these new kind of runners month back. Felt great but had more cushion. After the first run i felt this pain in my right tibia. Kinda like a slint but not. I kept using the shoes thinking oh…they just need to be broken in. Well know I think I have to take at least today off….maybe more. All because I didn’t listen… Note to self and anyone who reads this…..”Listen to your body”….Steve out.

I did my first marathon distance today. 26.93 miles to be precise….I think i need new shoe’s. Beside’s the pain in my right shin, all went well. Accept for the brutal heart burn…which lasted from mile 5-12, before I could stop at a store and pick up rolaids….Chewed a pack and was good the rest of the way. I’m out of my heartburn medication and attempting something different for relief. Casey found some orange rind pills that are supposed to relieve heartburn naturally. Take one everyother day for 20 days. So I’m hoping these 20 days aren’t too difficult.
Back to the run….the high was awsome….came and went a few times from miles 18-27. Great route too..click on the link below to view it on google earth. Now all I have to do is double it and do it 5 days a week. Nite

Ok, I know I haven’t blogged since Tuesday, no excuses….Sorry.
Casey and I did the Cancer stair climb here in Hamilton, organized by a friend of mine, Cathrine. They did such an awesome job. The event was so smooth (from an outsider’s point of view) I’m sure, when I ask her there will have been some things that she felt went wrong. But I’d have to say it was all thought out and done very well. Good job guys.
I did the stairs myself eight times… I think….maybe nine in my hour. I also ran about 8 miles earlier in the day and plan on doing 26 miles tomorrow. So, I didn’t want to push it to much on the stairs. And…stairs are tough….I mean double tough. Running is one thing, but stairs hurt. There was one guy there that did them 15 times. HOLY COW…. 289 stairs up and down….plus ramps in between the stairs….15 times in 1 hour….good for you buddy. Thank you to the Navy that came right off the boat to do the climb…Nice.
On to my training this week, still sore EVERY morning on my runs….the soreness does pass after about 2-3 minutes, but I am curious as to why. Ok, ok, ok….my training is going to plan except…and here it is…..the weights and core work….man… I hate doing them….geesh…what’s with them anyways…why can’t I just run….so I’ve done all my miles this week with the exception of the 26 miles I’m doing tomorrow. Morning runs five times…..speed work, hill work….and two mid long runs.
Well, Im off to do a gig with the Burlington Top Hat Marching Orchestra….There’s a link to their site on my page to the left…
