new training plan

Filed under: Training — beatcancer @ 7:10 pm

So its half way through the first week of the new training plan.

Tuesday morn (aka day 1) about a minute and a half of aches and pains and join discomfort in my right hip. Then it eased off and I had a great morning run. Some speed work at the Y after a lunch shift was great. Strong and fast.

Wed morn run….same thing…aches and pain in joints for a couple of minutes then again…..felt great. Long run of 10 miles after lunch shift felt great…except for some male chaving issues’. Working on that. lol….But, run was real strong and solid tempo.

thurs….relaxed morning jog. about 4 miles. Good recovery run…no pain in joints to start with…only a little sluggishness in the muscles responding. but after 8-9 minutes was good. Had some odd lower back twinges this aft. gonna drive to work instead of bike to rest it and see how it is in the morn.

Went to a funeral this afternoon.  Sad time. however, as the eulogy ended…..do not cry for Im gone…..smile because I was here. Pleasant. Have a good day.

Shin splints

Filed under: Training — beatcancer @ 12:39 pm

IT sure feels like shin splint…..i know it’s not. But it does remind me of the pains I used to get when I started running. I’ll ice it for the day and try a light run tonight.

Did 17 miles yetserday. Good time too. little over 6 mph. Acording to the training plan the speed was right where it needs to be for runs like that. I’d like to be around 6.5 for them. Great great great day for it. The sun was awsome. However, turning around and coming back the sun was a little lower at about 7pm last night so it was blinding at times, and thewind was real tough. Right in my face for the 7 miles back. Felt good.

Ran into two friends from my brighton days. They were turning left and I was running down the sidewalk.  What are the odds. Amy was here for the day and had only been in town a few hours. Must have been fateful.  Great to see you again Amy. And Nat I’ll keep my eyes peeled for you. Lets do coffee soon. (nice car).

Well Im off to my meeting with the score in T.O. Wish me luck.

How important is Sugar?

Filed under: Training — beatcancer @ 2:50 am

Well, I spoke with a friend of mine today and mentioned how a mutual friend had some serious depression issue’s and that  ended up being caused by Diabetis.  Once diagnosed and treated they became themselves for the first time in years. Isn’t that amazing…..As most of you know that have been reading, I have Low blood sugar….which when I told this friend was so totally not surprised.  They could see how i had had lots of moods swings for no appearent reason. its amazing how much of an effect Sugar (glucose) has on our body’swhich in turn effects our moods…Hyper or depression…..hmmm

Anyways…i messed up today and forgot to take some sugar (like gatorade or gel packs) on my long run today. I ran just over 3 hours and the last hour was brutal. No energy…..mostly dreaming about sugar….i had dreams of maple oatmeal with brown sugar…mmmmm. Needless to say thats what I had when I got home to eat. It was, however, a good chance to teach the body how to run on no sugar….not that that is good for the body, but sometimes neccessary for ultra running, I feel.
