Around the bay road race

Filed under: Training — beatcancer @ 2:02 pm

Well it was last sunday and it went great….I felt good and strong the entire race…never slowed, or wavered from my goal pace and plan. The link below is stats.. I’m still not the fastest guy out there, but that still is not the plan….slow and steady wins the race…..my goal was to finish strong and pain free….and I did…..

Around the bay road race preperation

Filed under: Training — beatcancer @ 1:39 pm

Hi,

The Around the bay road race is really popular here in hamilton. it is the oldest road race in NA. So i did around the distance of it.  More importantly I decided to try this theory about the 180.  Meaning, 180 strides per minute. Gait is not all that important in the theory yet. So, I started going through all of my music on my lap top and timing them with a metrenome. Then made a list of the tempos of all songs between 150-180. then i can make training tapes of music to train to.  Not just as a motivational song to pump me up. But, actually like having a drill sergent right there in my head yelling out stride comands.(left….left…..left, right,left…..etc) For those that know music its like my left foot on beats 1 and 3 of each bar.  This way i am forced to maitain a certain leg turn over speed. My gait was smaller than usual and REALLY REALLY hard to keep up with for the first bit of alice and chains got me wrong. But by the time the song was half over my body seemed to be used to it. So I can say with some confidence that the 180 theory works. I will continue to run with the drill sergent of blissful music in my head and keep you updated. Ffor now here’s the gps of the run. Rail trail running

Did about 9 miles with Casey’s Shoe spikes on. They work real good.  Providing there is no ice under the snow. These spikes strap on to your runners and seem to act like toes. Grabbing the snow like toes would grad the dry sand. Hense gripping the snow to give you traction to propell your self.  I would sprint up and down hills cvered with snow at ease.  The only time it slowed me down was when there was ice under the snow.  It was still better then without then.

Running injury’s caused by the mind

Filed under: Training — beatcancer @ 2:55 pm

So Running has been tough these last few days with a quad injury. I took 3 days off then ran 3 miles and found the pain return.  I started some massage therapy last night…will see how that goes. The thing is staying uninjured can be a lot in your head. I ran that super fast last hour in the race and strained the quad.  If I had managed to remain on my plan this wouldn’t have happened. Interesting……

NCAA march madness Tournament

This is the best time f year for any sports fan.  The ultimate 64(5) team one game ilimination. My favourite childhood team is back in it.  Georgetown, and Michigan. Gonna be tough to get my miles in this week with all this great basketbal on TV……haha

Great first half of the week.  Did 23 miles first three days, then took the last 4 off due to a quad strain. Hard decision. It hurt but I could still run through it. But felt it was best to rest it a few days. Going to meet with the Score media today for a idea sharing meeting.  Hopefully turns into something huge. Check in later to see how it goes.
